The Blind Side- Movie Review

"The Blind Side" is based on an touching true story about a young African American named Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) based on the book The Blind Side: Evolution Of A Game by Michael Lewis. Michael grew up in the project housing of Memphis, Tennessee with his mother being a drug addict and having a father who left at birth. Michael's story starts with him becoming homeless. Because of the situation in Michael's home child services removed Michael from what was happening at home. As a child he was tossed around from foster home to foster home because no one wanted him because he was such a problem. One day Michael was playing basketball with a friend and a coach from a Christian school saw him playing and wanted him to play football for them in the fall. Michael enrolled in the Christian school and met S.J Touhy and that's where everything started.

One cold winter night Michael was trying to find somewhere warm to sleep and as he was walking down a dark road the Touhy's saw him and brought him to their home for the night. Leigh Anne Touhy (Sandra Bullock) started to treat Michael as her own son as the days went on Michael started to feel like he was born into this family to begin with. The Touhy's decided after a while that they would make it official with Michael and make him part of the family.

As the football season started Leigh Anne Touhy started to realized that Michael didn't understand the concept of football. Michael couldn't grasp his role on the field. One day at practice Leigh Anne Touhy went to talk to Michael and explained his role on the field that how he is suppose to play his role. Once Michael understands his role on the field everyone seems to notice that he is an amazing football player. Once Michael starts playing to his full potential the University's started to notice him. Michael's family's answering machine was full of messages from the University's asking if Michael is available to come and play football for them next fall.

Michael meets with most of the University's that were interested in him and S.J Touhy (Jae Head) bargains with the football coaches to get the best deals for the family. Michael's only problem is that his grades aren't high enough to go to University. With the help of Miss Sue (Kathy Bates) Michael gets his grades up by the end of the school year. Michael ends up getting in the the University of his dreams and end up playing football again.

This 2009 movie directed and wrote by John Lee Hancock won an Oscar for the best performance by an actress in a leading role (Sandra Bullock). In this Biography/Drama/Sport movie Sandra Bullock plays the best role I have ever seen her play. She suited the character very well. I have seen All About Steve and The Proposal staring Sandra Bullock but The Blind Side by far was her best movie yet. Quinton Aaron played Michael Oher in the movie the Blind Side and I thought that his role was played very well also.

Overall I thought that The Blind Side was done extremely well. I found myself glued to the TV the entire time the movie was on. I thought that all the actors in the movie suited their roles very well and I was very pleased with the movie.

A Little About Me!

My name is Amanda and I'm back at EDSS for a semester to update some of the courses I have taken so that I can attend college next fall. I recently came to EDSS last year and I'm really enjoying it. I am hoping to attend college to become a pastry chef so that I can live my dream and open a bakery.

This summer my family went up to a cottage that we rent every year for a week in July. My brothers and I each bring someone along and we spend a week at this brand new cottage! My family has a boat that we spend a bunch of time on in the summer. We brought it along with us to the cottage and we spent most of our days tubing and wake boarding out on the water.

The rest of July I spent a bunch of time working and hanging out around my house. In August I went to see John Mayer at the Molson Amphitheater and he was amazing live!

Throughout the summer I took two cake decorating courses in my spare time. I really enjoyed taking them and I learned a lot by taking them as well. After completing the courses I realized that cupcakes are the thing that I enjoy making and decorating. My mom owns a scrapbooking store in Waterloo and she asked me to make cupcakes for some of the events that they have and this is what I made.

After making those for my moms work my grandma asked me to make cupcakes for her 45th wedding anniversary and this is what I made for them.

At the end of the summer my family goes on a camping trip up at Six Mile Lake campground and again we all bring friends and pretty much boat the entire week. On our trip I finally learned how to get up on our knee board!

Overall my summer was fast but great! It was as pack with things to do as others but it was just as fun! I am looking forward to this semester and finishing highschool and moving forward to something new in my life.
